Every year, 12th of January is celebrated as
Maharishi Yogi
Jayanti. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi enlightened the entire world with Vedic
knowledge and his heart-touching teachings mesmerized the listeners in many
cities of India from Jabalpur
to Holland.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was born on 12 January 1918 in
Panduka village, located near Rajim city of
Chhattisgarh. His
father's name was
Ramprasad Srivastava. Maharishi Yogi's real name was Mahesh Prasad
Srivastava.
His father worked in the Revenue Department.
He was transferred to Jabalpur in connection with his job. So the whole family
started living in
Gosalpur. Yogi spent his early childhood here. He liked the nature here very
much. After passing matriculation from
Hitkarini School here, he
obtained Bachelor of Science degree from the
University of Allahabad. He was
then appointed to the post of Upper Division Clerk in
Gun
Carriage Factory. There were many interesting stages in his journey from a
small job in a factory to becoming the world famous guru of The Beatles.
One day when he was going towards his elder brother's house on his bicycle, he
heard a melodious sermon in his ears. As soon as he heard the mesmerizing
lyrics, he discarded his bicycle aside and went there. When he saw and heard
Swami Brahmanand
Saraswati, he became impressed. At that very moment renunciation awakened in
his mind. After that Maharishi left home to follow his Guru Dev. For him the
whole world became like a family.
After taking spiritual practice from his Guru Swami Brahanand Saraswati,
Maharishi set out on a tour to awaken the world to the simple, effortless
practice of Transcendental Meditation. He
traveled to more than a hundred countries.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who merged into
Mahashunya on
February 5, 2008. Maharishi planned ahead and trained his successor, Raja
Raam. Dr. Anthony Nader became the clear leader of the TM movement, with
regional Rajas to administer the Global Country of World Peace, with the goal of
keeping the teaching of TM consistent, simple, and effective.
